25 CATS NAME SAM AND ONE BLUE PUSSY – HOLY CATS BY ANDY WARHOL’S MOTHER

200,00

Cat lovers may have two reservations about Warhol’s childlike, archly cute drawings: Why, in the first of these miniature books, are all the cats (minus one) named Sam? And why, in the second book, which depicts a feline heaven, are some cats consigned to hell? The green, pink, magenta and orange tabbies in 25 Cats wear sweet or dumpy grins and lack character. Holy Cats, printed on color paper, is a more imaginative effort. In it, Warhol drew the “pussy heaven” where his deceased pet Hester cavorts with angels and other cats. Warhol privately printed these slight volumes in the early 1950s when he was working as a commercial artist. The facsimile, revealing a sentimental side of the artist, makes an apealing gift item. First serial to Vanity Fair; BOMC alternate.
